Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been working hard to make your business ideas into reality, it’s important to turn your mind to whether your business is set up to best meet your needs and goals. A lawyer’s role is to ensure that you have the right foundation so you can plan the success of your business. That means asking the right questions about incorporating a company, the ownership structure, and the relationship between the key people of the business.
You juggle many roles as a small business owner but sometimes you need a lawyer to help protect your business and solve problems. MK Law Works will be able to give you practical and effective legal advice including crafting customized agreements outlining your relationship with business partners, employees, and independent contractors; drafting contracts with clients so you’re paid for the awesome work you do; deciphering leases; creating website terms & conditions and privacy policies; as well as buying or selling your business.
Being prepared means being able to manage your assets, plan for your loved ones, and have a say in your life’s decisions. It’s a personal process that may appear overwhelming but I will guide you through it step-by-step and make sure to meet your unique needs. There’s a sense of relief when you create a will outlining how you want to distribute your estate and who you’d like to be the guardian of your children, or documenting your decisions on who you trust to make important decisions for you when life throws you a curveball.
Legal services should be affordable to all small business owners and individuals. I have set fees for many common projects and will be happy to talk over a customized fee structure based on your needs so you can budget for it. Don’t be deterred from hiring a lawyer because of the dreaded fees. Let’s chat and we’ll find a solution.
I started Mitsumi Kawai Law Works* with the goal of working with creative freelancers, small business owners and entrepreneurs with their small business legal needs, as well as working with individuals in their wills & incapacity planning. Independent small businesses have been influential in my life and I love working with hard working individuals who provide unique products and valuable services to our community. I take inspiration from people who are passionate about what they do for a living and have the grit to get through the struggles of running a small business. My office is in the heart of lovely Gastown where small businesses are popping up like wildflowers.
A little about me: I graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s Degree in honours psychology before attending law school at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. After completing my articling at a large law firm in downtown Vancouver, I made the conscious decision to work with clients that I want to support. I live on Bowen Island with my husband, Rob of Measure Co., and love exploring our special corner of the world in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
